So my last post on this subject relayed some of my experiences in the realm of clairvoyance or second sight. In this post I’ll share some of my thoughts and experiences with empathy! I also want to re-iterate from my last blog, that I feel everyone is psychic, only more or less aware of it and it’s a natural by-product of being alive.
Empathy is defined as being able to experience the emotions of another as if they are your own. Empathy can be a gift, and it can also be a confusing pain in the ass if you aren’t aware of it. A good example of this in action could be something like, being in an awesome mood until you encounter someone who is in a deeply depressed state of mind. Sometimes that empathy can cause you to match up to that other persons mental state and it can suck.
This isn’t just limited to the areas of emotion, for me I sometimes experience the pain other people feel. Just like with the emotional side of empathy, the physical side has it’s positives and it’s negatives too. (Well like all things, really). The positive, is that if you are working in a healing modality, or just want to understand someone’s perspective more completely, this will really make that happen! The downside, is that well, it can hurt!
That’s why it’s important to pay attention to your body and emotions as well as be mindful about the people you surround yourself with. It’s good to know what your natural state of being is without the addition of other people’s energy. Empathy is a gift when it comes to understanding other people and what they are experiencing, but if they are going through something that is going to feel sucky – you want to be able to separate from that enough so it doesn’t suck you down into it as well.
This is where being able to maintain your own vibration becomes important because you can’t always separate yourself from uncomfortable people and situations. What I like doing in situations like these (when it becomes overwhelming) is just send that energy coming at me (because everything is energy, even emotions) into the earth.
I like to design a mental construct of sorts around myself, like a net that pulls all the bad stuff down into the ground and lets the rest pass through. The other thing you can do is project your own energy and good vibes outwards, instead of letting other people’s energy bring you down, lift them up. Offer a smile, it helps. 🙂
